Trader Joe’s Chocolate Lava Gnocchi is back for a second year and continues to make waves with customers. The sweet treat is back in the freezer section and we are definitely on board for the dinner-turned-dessert!

Traditionally, gnocchi is a soft dough dumpling and made from ingredients like potatoes, flour and semolina and served in a savory white or red sauce. However, in typical Trader Joe’s fashion, the company took a simple food and made it so much better.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4ySv-jJfhC/

The Chocolate Lava Gnocchi’s packaging describes the dessert as “sweet chocolate gnocchi with a molten chocolate core.” Much like the grocer’s popular cauliflower gnocchi, this version can be served up in under 10 minutes by sauteeing in a pan with a little butter before enjoying the melty goodness.

You can find the product in a 12. oz bag in the freezer section for $2.99.

2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 lb smoked Gouda cheese, coarsely shredded
1/4 lb Cheddar cheese, coarsely shredded
1/2 tsp smoked paprika, optional
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground pepper, to taste

For the miso butterscotch:
3/4 cups cream
6 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1/4 cup miso
3/4 cup brown sugar

For the cauliflower mac n' cheese:
4 cups Gouda and Cheddar béchamel
1 cup currants
1 1/2 cup cauliflower, blanched
1 tbsp truffle oil
2 lbs cavatappi pasta
1 sheet tray croissant dough
Miso butterscotch

Directions:

For the gouda and Cheddar béchamel:
1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Add the flour and whisk over moderately high heat for 30 seconds. Add the milk and bring to a boil, whisking constantly. Cook over moderate heat, whisking constantly, until thickened, 4 to 5 minutes.

2. Add the cream, cheeses, paprika, and nutmeg and whisk just until the cheese is melted, about 2 minutes.

3. Season with salt and pepper.

For the miso butterscotch:
1. Combine the cream and butter in a small saucepan, and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the butter melts.

2. Stir in the miso and sugar and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture is slightly thickened and shiny, 5 to 10 minutes.

3. Taste and add a little more sugar if you think it's too salty (remember, you'll be using it in savory dishes).

For the cauliflower mac & cheese:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Take béchamel, currants, cauliflower, truffle oil, and pasta and fold together. Place into a baking dish and top with croissant.

3. Cook in oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

4. Let cool and set up so that when you cut a piece out it holds.

5. Once it's cut drizzle miso butterscotch over the crust.

Kid Flicks with a Brownie Treat: Palmer House Hilton

Palmer House Hilton, Nicole Greco

Palmer House Hilton's brownies are legendary, and Pastry Chef Walleska Cianfanelli is letting you in on the secret. Bake up some chocolatey goodness and snuggle in for one of these movies, filmed at Palmer House Hilton.

Miracle on 34th Street (1994 version)
Curly Sue

PALMER HOUSE HILTON BROWNIE
The first reference to the “brownie” in America appears in the Sears Roebuck Catalog published in Chicago in 1898. Specifically at the direction of Bertha Palmer to be served at the Columbian Exposition World’s Fair in 1893, the brownie was created in the Palmer House Kitchen in the late 19th century. The recipe below is well over a century old, and is the exact same one used for the brownie served in the Palmer House Hilton today! It remains one of the hotel’s most popular confections.

Ingredients:

14 oz semi-sweet chocolate
1 lb butter
12 oz granulated sugar
4 oz flour
8 eggs
12 oz crushed walnuts
1 tbsp vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

2. Melt chocolate and butter in a double boiler. Mix the sugar and flour together in a bowl. Combine chocolate and flour mixtures. Stir 4 to 5 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla and continue mixing.

3. Pour mixture into a 9x12 baking sheet. Sprinkle walnuts on top, pressing down slightly into the mixture with your hand. Bake 30-40 minutes.

4. Brownies are done when the edges begin to crisp and has risen about 1/4 of an inch.

Note: When the brownie is properly baked, it will remain “gooey” with a toothpick in the middle due to the richness of the mixture.

Glaze: Mix together 1 c. water, 1 c. apricot preserves, and 1 tsp. unflavored gelatin in saucepan. Mix thoroughly and bring to a boil for two minutes. Brush hot glaze on brownies while still warm.

15 Meals from Trader Joe’s That Take 10 Minutes or Less

The Best Frozen Meals at Trader Joe’s

Changes are coming to Chuck E. Cheese. The iconic kid–friendly fun-factory/pizza joint is getting an update—and it won’t look like what you remember from your own childhood.

After an initial announcement in 2017, it looks like Chuck E. Cheese is making good on its promise to ditch its decades-old design and the ever-epic animatronic band in more than 600 locations. While some changes have already happened in select locations, the company now plans to roll out the redo across the nation.

So what can you expect from the newly revamped Chuck E. Cheese? Reportedly, the redesign will include a modern look with sleek furniture, brighter lighting and scripted red font signs. The game play/pizza eatery’s menu will also undergo a facelift, including an expanded salad bar and options such as cauliflower crust pizza.

Along with the new look and menu, the game-time tokens you’re used to are waving buh-bye. Instead of tokens, your kiddos will now use pre-loaded play passes. If you’re wondering how this will work, a Chuck E. Cheese representative told Today, “Next time you visit your local store, you simply choose the time you want to play, starting at just $9 for 30 minutes of play.”

Chuck E. Cheese Just Made Play Time So Much Easier—& Wallet-Friendly

Sensory Sundays Come to Chuck E. Cheese & It’s Great for Kids with Special Needs

Introducing food is one of the most exciting milestones in your child’s first year of life. But have you ever actually tasted store-bought baby food? Go ahead. Give it a try. Jar or pouch not tasting so fresh and healthy? After discovering that most baby food available today is highly processed and either overly sweet or too bland, Chicago mom of two Shibani Baluja started making her own food full of hearty, nutritious veggies, and light on fruits. Read on for the scoop on Shibani’s company, lil’gourmets and why it’s a win-win for both kids and busy parents.

Special offer: Try lil’gourmets for just $3 a meal by using code REDTRI3 with the purchase of two or more boxes. And to learn more visit lilgourmets.com.

The Scoop

After consulting with pediatricians, chefs and nutritionists, Shibani launched lil’gourmets to make her fresh and delicious meals conveniently available to parents of babies and toddlers. Instead of using mostly apples and bananas to cover up the taste of vegetables, Shibani opted to rely on spices to enhance the flavors of those vegetables. The result was spoonfuls of bold and earthy veggie goodness, naturally low in sugar but big on taste.

Why You’ll Both Love the Meals
The meals are all 70-95% vegetables and beans and come in four flavorful varieties:

  • Organic Sweet Potato Curry: Made with 100% organic sweet potatoes, coconut milk, spinach, a squeeze of lemon and lime juice, and a blend of  spices
  • Organic Moroccan Butternut Squash: Made with 100% organic butternut squash, carrots, chickpeas, a squeeze of tamarind and lemon, and a blend of spices
  • Organic Coconut Cauliflower Mash: Made with 100% organic cauliflower, carrots, peas, coconut milk, a squeeze of tamarind and lime, and a blend of spices
  • Organic Cinnamon Beets & Apples: Made with 100% organic beets, a bit of apple, a squeeze of lemon, and a hint of cinnamon and ginger

These chef-inspired flavors can help develop a young child’s curiosity and palate, while the minimal processing allows your baby to absorb the essential nutrients in the veggies to boost growing brains and bodies. Each 3.5 oz lil’gourmets cup exposes your little one to new tastes, textures, colors, and aromas, and can be served directly from the fridge or placed in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes.

A single serving packs enough nutritional punch to stand as a meal for baby, or to offer as a side dish for a hungry toddler or preschooler. Try Cinnamon Beets & Apples on the side of beef or substitute for an applesauce snack; let your toddler dip their grilled chicken in Sweet Potato Curry or Moroccan Butternut Squash; or pair Coconut Cauliflower Mash with a fish or grain, like quinoa or pita bread, or even sprinkle with ground cashews for a nutty flavor. Talk to your baby and let your child see how you think about, prepare, and enjoy food and family mealtime will take on a whole new dimension.

Benefits Beyond a Delicious and Healthy Meal
The lil’gourmets servings are all packaged in clear cups so your baby will get lots of spoon-feeding and fine motor skills practice, plus plenty of chances to recognize satiety cues and relish parent/caretaker bonding. And, all that time you spend together with your baby in a highchair sharing a meal? Setting a positive relationship with food by providing healthy and hearty meals will help your kiddo blossom into a healthy and happy eater.

It's Convenient

The lil’gourmets model couldn’t be easier. The meals—ala-carte or subscription—are delivered refrigerated to your door, saving you time and energy to do all the other things you love doing. Just order a box of the organic veggie meals, store them in your fridge and your little one will enjoy fresh and flavorful foods every day. What’s more, lil’gourmets meals are made with only organic ingredients, just 3-5 grams of sugar per serving, and everything is non-GMO, vegan, preservative-free, and gluten-free. So you also save yourself any worry over what you're putting in your baby’s bowl.

Want to give it a taste? Try lil’gourmets for just $3 a meal by using code REDTRI3 at lilgourmets.com with the purchase of two or more boxes. And to learn more or see the list of local grocers they are sold at, visit lilgourmets.com.
