While it’s always fun to pop open the sparkling cider and break out the silly string at home, there are lots of kid-friendly Seattle New Year’s Eve events happening around the city. If you’re looking to get out and celebrate with the kids, we’ve got the scoop on the best parties in town—from Noon Year’s Eve events that let you get home at a reasonable hour to events that will let you see the strike of midnight. Let’s get this party started!
For over thirty years, local families have been ringing in the new year at the base of Seattle's iconic Space Needle. This year, we have a feeling tons of folks will be gathering for the first in-person show since the beginning of the pandemic. In addition to the traditional fireworks and lights show, families can enjoy an 11-minute choreographed drone show highlighting pop culture moments from the past year. Consider this your 2023 celebratory trifecta.
Enjoy this Seattle-based family concert on New Year's Eve at Mount Baker Community Club. You'll hear dynamic music from Harmonica Pocket that the kiddos will love and just might do a jig to. Your family will ring in the New Year on a happy note with this music in your ears. 3. New Year’s Eve Pajama Party
The Seattle Children's Museum is throwing a daytime New Year's Eve pajama party you won't want to miss. This event will be filled with special activities, a dance party, and even materials for everyone to make a time capsule. This will be such a fun and memorable way for your kids to ring in 2023 and it's included with your admission fee.
For an all-day celebration, join the staff of KidsQuest as they ring in 2023. Activities will happen every few hours, ensuring the delight and joy never ends for your kids. Kids can get some fabulous face paint, hear a sensational story time, and experience the famous bubble wrap stomp. Tickets are required, and families can reserve times at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., or 4 p.m. to celebrate.

5. Candyland Family NYE
The theme says it all at this family-friendly celebration that includes face painting, balloon artists, music, Disney princess appearances, and a major balloon drop that'll have your kids squealing with delight. And that's all before (or after) you play a round of mini golf on one of the coolest indoor courses around—they have unicorns and a throne. Tickets are just $25 per person for anyone over 6 years old and free for anyone under 5.

6. Noon Year's Eve at KiDiMu
Put a scenic ferry ride on your list of New Year's Eve activities and make your way to Bainbridge Island for this kid-friendly celebration. Kids will have a chance to play at the museum, sure, but the highlights of the day include fireworks science and New Year's-themed crafts. Add in a celebratory countdown to noon to get 2023 started in the right direction. You'll need tickets to attend.

7. Rockin' Rockfish Noon Year's Eve
Everyone is invited to virtually join the staff at Seattle Aquarium for their third annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration. It's a super-fun way to welcome 2023 with new animals, music, and dances—even more fun than last year. The event will be hosted by Diana Cardiff with music from Mikey the Rad Scientist. Plus kids can learn amazing facts about some of the animals at the Seattle Aquarium. Register online (it's free!) and you'll be sent the YouTube link so your crew can participate from home. The site has bonus activities so you can get your kids jazzed up for all the fun in advance.
Bring the kids to Olympia for the Hands On Children's Museum's unforgettable Noon Years Eve Party. This year's theme is "Shine Bright in the New Year." Expect lots of sparkle, shine, glimmer, and glow activities that tie into the theme like Dr. Science experiments, bioluminescence, shooting star launching, glitzy crafts, and a photo booth. The Noon Year’s countdown includes a dance party, ball drop, and parade every hour throughout the day. Our tip? Make your online reservations in advance and save $2 on admission.

9. New Year's Eve Pajama Party
2023 is almost here and that's as good a reason as any to celebrate with a kid-friendly cooking class. Welcome 2023 with color, style, and flavor—with a cooking party for kids ages 4-9. Kids will toast to the end of 2022 with a homemade cheese quesadilla, confetti cupcakes, hot cocoa, and more. They'll even come home with cinnamon rolls to bake up on New Year's Day. The first production of Cirque du Soleil's Alegria premiered in 1994. Since then, the show (which means “joy” in Spanish) is one of the company’s most popular shows. In celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary, Alegria has been reworked and you might say reenergized for today’s audiences. The loose storyline highlights “aristocratic ideals of the old guard" being "challenged by the revolutionary ideals of a youth in revolt.” But we're sure your kids will just think of it as a new-fangled circus show, and will be totally taken in by all of the spectacle that includes 53 acrobats, clowns and musicians.
Insider tip: Cirque du Soleil says that Alegria was created to be enjoyed by the whole family. However the show contains some loud noises and some dark scenes during its 135-minute-long run (there is an intermission too).
Good to know: Parking is available at Marymoor Park. It is $25 per vehicle, and they only accept cash, so you’ll want to stop by the cash machine on the way there.

It's a tale as old as time, and when Disney’s Beauty and the Beast hits The 5th Avenue Theatre stage, you won't want to miss it. Like all 5th Avenue productions, families can expect spectacular costuming and staging that helps bring one of your kiddo's favorite stories to life on stage. Under the spell of an enchantress, a spoiled prince has been turned into a hideous monster, and his staff have been turned into household objects with a penchant for song and dance. When the curtain rises, only time will tell if the curse will be lifted. It's up to the Beast and his musical companions to find someone who can truly love him, despite his appearance and actions.

A quartet of musical stars come together to celebrate Disney princesses for both their courage to do what is right as well as their kindness to others. The musical talent includes Broadway star Susan Egan, Disney Channel star Anneliese van der Pol, Syndee Winters and Arielle Jacobs as well their “prince” for the afternoon, Adam J. Levy. The performance will not only include favorite songs sung by famous animated royalty, but also behind-the-scenes stories from these talented women who have portrayed some of your kiddo's favorite Disney characters on the stage and on screen.
Insider tip: Dressing up in your royal garb is encouraged. This is a family production, but even Disney recommends that children should be at least six years of age to enjoy this two-hour-long show that includes an intermission.

Anastasia

Based on the Don Bluth animated 1997 movie, this musical became a theatre presentation in 2016, then went to Broadway in 2017 where it won numerous awards. (Not bad for show based on a cartoon.) Now it's making its way to Seattle for a week-long run at the Paramount Theater. Kids will be enthralled by the story that follows Anastasia as she travels from Russia to Paris in the 1920s. Along the way this brave, young woman discovers things about her past that she never knew, all while avoiding a ruthless Soviet officer that wants to silence her. Even if younger kids are only loosely following along, this adventure will captivate them as Anastasia tries to find her home and family.
Insider tip: Anastasia is recommended for adults and children ages 5 and up. There are two matinee performances and one earlier evening show (at 6:30 p.m.) that might fit in well with your family’s schedule.

Sure, you know the tale of Little Riding Hood, but this farce of a show aims to turn this classic fairytale on its head. In this howlingly funny production, Wolfgang (a.k.a. the greatest actor in the world) attempts to set the record straight about what really went down on that trip to Grandmother’s house oh so long ago. Reminiscent of the popular Jon Scieszcka retelling of another children's tale, this is one that will appeal to both kids and adults, although this show is intended for kids age 5 and up. And the show hits that just-right sweet spot too, with a run time of 65 minutes and no intermission.

Described as a one-of-a-kind immersive experience, Baby Shark Live's 2022 Splash Tour will take audiences on a trip from the jungle to the sea, while investigating shapes, colors and numbers. In addition to the infamous song you can't escape, the show also includes songs like “Five Little Monkeys,” “Wheels On The Bus,” and “Monkey Banana Dance.” The best part has got to be the 2 p.m. curtain that ensures you’ll have plenty of time to get the kiddos home in time for bed.
Families are encouraged to “ride along” with Daniel Tiger and his friends aboard the trolley headed to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Based on the super-popular PBS animated series (which in turn is based on Mister Roger’s Neighborhood), this interactive theatre show is filled with music, dancing and surprises bringing favorite characters like O the Owl, Miss Elaina, Katerina Kittycat, Prince Wednesday, and more to life. The musical comedy is celebration of Charles Schultz’s comic strip panels and is simply a must for any Peanuts-loving family. Knott’s Berry Farm With humble beginnings as a berry farm nearly one hundred years ago, Knott’s Berry Farm touts itself as California’s original theme park and for good reason—Walt Disney himself was a visitor, pre-Disneyland. Today Knott's Berry Farm is best known for high-thrill coasters that push the limits (think: multiple inversions and > 90-degree drops). Shorties who don’t (or don’t want to) qualify for the coasters will find Camp Snoopy at just the right speed and thrill level.

Downtown Anaheim Farmer’s Market Over 30 vendors gather every Thursday at Center Street to hawk their food/wares. Varying from succulents and bee products to pet bandanas and almond butter, this market showcases both local talent and produce and it is impossible to leave without a purchase!
Discovery Cube With over 100 hands-on exhibits, this top-notch children’s science center and museum will keep little hands and minds engaged. At the Physics Lab, kids build race cars and test them against the clock or other cars, all while exploring physics as a byproduct. We also stepped into a wind tunnel to investigate aerodynamics, tried to engineer the perfect paper airplane and dabbled with altering 3D topography. Good to know: • A cafe serves up snacks and is denoted, appropriately, by a large “COFFEE” sign • The museum is mind-boggling expansive as we discovered we missed an entire wing on our way out so be sure to allow time to explore it all
Pirate’s Dinner Adventure Don your eyepatch and wood peg leg as your family embarks on an immersive evening of revelry and adventure. Divided into teams to involve audience participation, (clean) trash-talking is encouraged as you cheer your pirate on in daring tasks. Acrobatics, swordplay and stunts are all on the menu in addition to a full dinner—the hardest part will be getting the kids to pay attention to eat with all the spectacles going on!
Good to know: • The adults liked how there was an actual story plot and witty puns incorporated • Sensory sensitive kids may be overloaded with all the sounds and lights
Disneyland Having grown up in SoCal and gone regularly as a kid (RIP $30 tickets), it was thrilling to take my kids back to the magical world that is Disneyland. We enjoyed Skellabration at the Haunted House in addition to the festive holiday decorations but one of my favorite things about Disneyland during the holidays is the food! From Peppermint beignets from Mint Julep Bar to eggnog cold brew from Red Rose Taverne—give me all of it!
Good to know: • Rope drop is still the way to go. We recommend being at the park’s security lines 30-45 mins before opening so that you’re on Main St at opening • Fantasyland at rope drop has never failed us. Anaheim Packing House This Insta-worthy food hall was one of the highlights of our trip—we loved the unique decorations of bright lanterns and swings, the airy open-space setting, the farmer’s park with its heart swing .. . oh! And all the artisan food options! The classic southern fried chicken at Georgia’s, miso ramen at Orange Tei, Strawberry Pocky (sorbetto on a stick) at Popbar and apple pie a la mode at Pie Hole were big hits for us. If you’re able to find it, kids 21+ can slip into the Blind Rabbit speakeasy
The Fifth This rooftop restaurant and bar located across the street from Disneyland means if timed properly, your family will enjoy a bird’s eye view of the fireworks on select nights (reservations highly recommended on those nights)! Casual enough for relaxing after a day at the park but also ideal for special occasions, we found the Fifth to be inviting and family-friendly. While there wasn’t a kid menu per se, we found plenty of kid options such as mini corn dogs, burgers, grilled cheese and pasta.
SteelCraft Built with repurposed shipping containers, SteelCraft aims to unite the community through local craft food and drink vendors, live music and other neighborhood events. We loved dining in the large, open-space communal dining space where there was space for kids to swing and play ping pong while waiting for our food. Our favorites included the Mexican x Asian fusion barrio ramen, made-to-order Duck donuts and washing it all down with coffee boba (other options include craft beer, wine and cocktails).
Getting Around
FRAN Free Rides Around the Neighborhood (FRAN) is a program utilizing open-air electric vehicles that the City of Anaheim uses to offer free, on-demand rides within its local downtown area. With sixteen points of interest and popular downtown destinations, riders can summon a ride at their convenience through an app or good ‘ole fashioned phone call and a vehicle is dispatched shortly. It was a fast, convenient method for us to travel around and the best part is that it was free!

Howard Johnson Anaheim & Water Playground Recently renovated, a mere eight-minute walk separates your family from this property and the gates of Disneyland if you can get the kids to leave the super fun Castaway Cove water playground (reservations are required). At 538 sq ft, the spacious Kids Suite can accommodate up to six guests with one king bed and twin bunk beds plus a sleeper sofa in a separate bedroom. Between the water playground and fun bunk beds, my kids declared HoJo Anaheim their new favorite hotel!

Grand Legacy at The Park This hotel’s prime location across the street from Disneyland makes it a five-minute commute—it truly doesn’t get any closer and is faster than walking to Disney’s parking structures. This means you can easily be at rope drop after rolling out of bed or party until closing. Fifth restaurant (mentioned above) also makes its home at the rooftop here which, along with a pool for kids to splash and cool off in, is all the reason to consider staying here on your next visit.
