Now Cauliflower Is the Latest Veggie with a Major E. Coli Problem

It looks like romaine isn’t the only veggie recall to watch out for. Following the recent mass scale romaine recall, Adam Bros. Farming, Inc. (one of the suspected sources of the previous outbreak) announced a cauliflower recall due to E. Coli risk. But that’s not all. Along with cauliflower, the company has also voluntarily recalled red and green leaf lettuce.

According to a press release from Adam Bros., “The recall was initiated after it was discovered that sediment from a reservoir near where the produce was grown tested positive for E. coli O157:H7. Filtered and treated water from the reservoir may have come in contact with the produce after it was harvested. None of the filtered, treated water has tested positive for E. coli, all E. coli tests returning negative.”

What does this mean for consumers? So far none of the veggie products have tested positive for the bacteria. Beyond that, there are no reported illnesses linked to these produce products. Again, the current recall includes cauliflower, red leaf lettuce and green leaf lettuce. The products were harvested between Nov. 27, 2018 and Nov. 30, 2018 and grown in some (not all) of Adam Bros. Farming’s fields.

The recalled cauliflower was distributed to U.S. wholesalers in Arizona, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as wholesalers in Tijuana. Mexico and Canada. Red and green leaf lettuce products were distributed to U.S. wholesalers in California, Colorado, Minnesota Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania and Washington state. Green leaf lettuce was also sent to wholesalers in Canada and red leaf lettuce products went to wholesalers in MN and Tijuana, Mexico.

For a full list of recalled product identification carton tag numbers and pallet tag numbers, visit the FDA’s website. If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them.
