Convenience rules. Between work, carpool, preschool pick-up, soccer, dance class, karate, story-time, grocery shopping, finding your toddler’s other shoe and everything else that happens daily, you just don’t have time for those little extras. Don’t stress mama. With these creative solutions it looks like a few major brands want to make every parents life easier—in the kitchen.

So forget about the hard work (or any work at all, for that matter) and check out these not-so-much-effort-required products.

Mac & Cheese in a Can

No time to boil water? Heinz’s Mac & Cheese in a can is here to take the sting out of that obnoxious wait time. While the product isn’t exactly new, you can stock up on the dinnertime essential on Amazon that boasts a creamy cheese sauce, and would likely make a great camping meal.

Stuffed Puffs

Is stacking a marshmallow, one piece of chocolate and two graham crackers together just way too much work? While sandwiching the sweetest part of a s’more may seem like child’s play (pretty literally), it looks like the makers of Stuffed Puffs chocolate-in-the-middle marshmallows might not agree.

Dessert Toppers

Forget about crinkling up your own candy bar to top your kiddo’s ice cream sundae. With Butterfinger Bits and Buncha Crunch, you can add extra sweetness with a simple pour. Add if opening a box of Nerds is too much of a time-suck, you can simply pour out the dessert toppers!

Spoonable Smoothies

Yum in a bowl! Dole’s Spoonable Smoothies are here and they make breakfast (or a snack) super-crazy-easy. With Strawberry Banana and Pineapple Banana flavors, now you can make your very own on-trend smoothie bowl—without having to mix, blend or do anything more than lift a spoon.

Stay-At-Home Moms Deserve Work-Life Balance, Too—Here’s How

It’s safe to say that mom life is never boring. Millions of moms around the world battle the everyday struggle of simply finding time to “do it all”—myself included. However, even on those darkest days when you just want to give up and binge on Netflix, there’s a way to balance being a mom and finding time for yourself.

There’s no secret “key” to being able to balance everything. If there were, we’d have all unlocked that door by now, right? When it comes to finding a work-life balance, it takes patience and understanding of your true goals. This can be increasingly more difficult if you work from home as well. Trust me! When you’ve got little ones in the home during the workday, it can add a few extra stresses and hurdles, too. I’m happy to share all the tidbits of knowledge that I’ve accumulated over the years. What works for me may not work for all. But I can say that if you’re stressed now, any steps forward on a different path can help.

1. Make a real schedule.

I know, I know. Schedules can be tedious and draining… I get it. But, this is where you need to think differently. Make a schedule that fits your lifest‌yle. If you know that you’re going to get sidetracked during the day, create your daily schedule to accommodate that. It’s the only way I can manage a home, three kids and running my blog.

Planning on eating lunch at noon? Write that into your schedule. But instead of giving yourself 30 minutes to sit down and eat, pencil in an hour—just in case. If you allow yourself a bit of wiggle room in your schedule, you automatically don’t feel as stressed. And when you don’t feel as stressed, things just tend to go a bit more smoothly. Be sure to pencil in some time for things YOU enjoy throughout the day—whether that means taking a 30 minute break to watch your favorite show or making a quick call to your friend while you clean the kitchen. And when your schedule of tasks is over for the day, stop there. Don’t you dare try to clean another thing. Let yourself rest.

2. Use your phone for something other than scrolling through Facebook.

More than likely, your cell phone probably isn’t very far from you at all at this very moment. Most people know where it is at all times and are constantly grabbing it, reading mom blogs with it, playing on it or just scrolling and wasting time.

And while I won’t ask you how much time per day you spend on in Internet searching and scrolling, I will ask you to change your mindset about your phone. Instead of looking at your phone as an escape, look at your phone as a tool to help you overcome and stay on track. Phones are helpful in so many ways that we often tend to forget their true function. Your phone can help you balance everything. It’s crazy simple.

For example, if you know that you need to do at least three loads of laundry every single day, but somehow it never happens, your phone is there to help. Set an alarm to put a load of laundry in at 8 a.m. and another alarm at 9 a.m. to move it to the dryer. Boom! Just like that, you got a friendly reminder from your phone and you’re on track (now folding… that can be a whole other alarm on its own!). Keep setting those alarms throughout the day and soon enough, you’ll start to notice that your mind will create a routine that you don’t even have to think about. Plus, knowing you got your tasks done during the day means more peace at night when you have time for some TLC. No one wants thoughts about their dirty dishes during a bubble bath.

3. Outsource, outsource, outsource.

As a mom, you’re always busy! You have a million little and big things to do. The best tip I can give you is to outsource the things that you don’t enjoy doing. For me, that was grocery shopping. Loading three small kids into the minivan to find the best deals at Aldi was a marathon to say the least. I would come home utterly exhausted. Since I found InstaCart, a grocery shopping app, I haven’t been in a grocery store in months. It is well worth the small additional fee to save my sanity and time. Remember, balancing it all doesn’t mean doing it all. Getting rid of some tasks means more time and energy to take care of yourself.

4. Define your physical and mental limits, then stick to them.

I’m a firm believer that when you’re mentally healthy, it has a direct positive effect on your work-life balance. The longer that you run around and wear yourself out without giving yourself time to rest, the more crazy and chaotic your home life will be. That chaos leaves you with less time to take care of yourself. The moment that you understand your mental and physical limits as a mom, you’ll find a much more effective manner to do everything.

I understand that giving yourself time every day to relax may not be possible if you have a little tribe of children keeping you busy. But ask for help so you can collect yourself and be a strong mom again.

5. Make your happiness a priority.

When it comes to finding balance, you need to always remember to factor in your happiness and personal growth as well. Our minds are a beautiful thing and so it’s important to take care of them. No matter when you choose to do so, do something for yourself daily, even if you start with only five minutes. You’ll be amazed at how much more energized you feel. More than likely, your work-life balance will start to show improvements as well!

Starbucks Now Offers Childcare Benefits for Its Employees & It’s Long Overdue

Microsoft is helping to make Kroger’s smart grocery stores a reality. The tech giant and mega grocery retailer are partnering to make the shopping experience easier. So what do we know about these smart stores? Read on to learn what might come to a Kroger near you.

You’ve heard about the cashier-less Amazon Go stores. The “walk-in, grab your stuff and go” formula has totally transformed the face of grocery shopping. Now, Kroger wants in.

While these new Kroger smart stores don’t have the same sensor and camera-driven cashier-less model that you’ll find in an Amazon Go, they do use technology to make getting your groceries easier. So how do these stores work?

Customers can use Kroger’s app or a “Scan, Bag, Go” terminal to create shopping list. The app/terminal then directs the customer around the store to find every item on their list. Along with their in-store shopping smart system, the new partnership will also bring digital signs to the aisles and allow employees to monitor shelf stock.

Don’t get super-excited about your local Kroger turning into a smart store immediately. As of now only there are only two prototype smart stores—one near Kroger’s headquarters in Monroe, Ohio and the other near Microsoft’s HQ in Redmond, Washington. Fingers crossed, more roll out this year.

The Best Times to Shop at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Costco & More Grocery Stores

Raise your hand if you wear yoga pants to Trader Joe’s. We bet there are plenty of hands in the air right now. One mama recently revealed her TJ’s yoga pant-induced struggle on Reddit, and this story may just make you think twice about gearing up in athleisure-wear when you go grocery shopping.

Several months ago Reddit user u/LadyCatFeline swore off wearing yoga pants. Well, at least for non-exercise types of activities anyway. But after a laundry-less stretch, she had to pull the body-hugging, pocket-free pants out of storage. And that’s where the story gets so bad, it’s good.

Photo: Rawpixel via Pexels

Instead of stashing her car keys, phone and everything else in her pants pockets, this mama had to drop them into one of her Trader Joe’s shopping bags. Remember, the yoga pants left her without pockets. As she left the store, a Trader Joe’s employee trailed after her and asked if she needed help. With a baby and a toddler, she jumped on the assistance awesomeness.

After the TJ’s employee loaded up her car, the pocket-less mama realized something was wrong: “The car keys were in the shopping bag which is in the closed trunk. So we’re locked out of the car.”

What happened next is kind of a pre-Christmas miracle. The TJ’s employee called AAA, brought the family bottled water and offered snacks for the kiddos while they waited.

Now that’s customer service!

Holiday shopping is sure to look a little different this year withToys“R”Us and Geoffrey the Giraffe have bade farewell to  kids (and adults) this past summer. If you’re still feeling down over the loss, there’s some good news, Toys”R”Us is coming back. Well…sort of.

According to Business Insider, Toys“R”Us will make a temporary comeback for the holiday season in the form of “Geoffrey’s Toy Box,” a pop-up that will be featured at 600 Kroger grocery stores across the country.

The mini-displays within stores, which have already started popping up, will offer a variety of toys, ranging in price from $19.99 to $49.99. While the actual items might vary from store to store, they will all be from Toys“R”Us’ former private labels, like Animal Zone, Imaginarium, Journey Girls, Edu Science, You & Me and Just Like Home.

“Geoffrey’s Toy Box delivers a unique shopping destination within Kroger stores,” Robert Clark, Kroger’s head of merchandising, said in a statement. “We’re excited to offer Geoffrey’s Toy Box this holiday season to provide our customers with the opportunity to purchase a selection of toys once exclusive to Toys”R”Us.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BpnDHlEgVRg/

These new pop-ups might not come close to the real deal that is toy shopping within an actual Toys”R”Us store, but they do offer the convenience crossing two items off your to-do list at once of being able to grab a last-minute gift while grocery shopping. (Of course the downside is trying to avoid those cases of grocery store meltdown when the kids spot a toy they want near the checkout lines…)

Either way, we’re glad to see the spirit of Geoffrey lives on.

Grocery shopping without waiting in line is probably every mom’s dream—and now that dream might just come true as Amazon Go stores will reportedly open at 3,000 locations across the country. An Amazon spokesperson told Red Tricycle, “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation”—but here’s what we do know right now.

According to a Bloomberg report, Amazon plans to rapidly expand its cashier-less Amazon Go stores with 3,000 locations set to open by 2021. With four Amazon Go stores open already, the cashier-less store concept is still being fine-tuned as some locations feature mainly grab-and-go eats while others also have a small selection of grocery items. Despite the difference in offerings, the overall idea is to make a quick stop at the store fast and easy by eliminating the need to stand in line and pay.

Amazon Go shoppers simply use their Amazon smartphone apps to enter the store. Sensors on the shelves pick up data from what’s taken off the shelves and how much it costs. Paying is even easier as customers can pay via the app while they walk out of the store.

The only question that remains is where these new stores will be. Location is a major part of convenience, especially in major cities where limited parking and transportation are big factors. Skipping a line is a big plus for families, but not if you have to park a mile away. “Amazon Go already has no lines,” Jeff Lenard, vice president of National Association of Convenience Stores, told Bloomberg. “The key to success will be convenient locations. If it’s a quarter mile from where people are walking and biking, the novelty of the technology won’t matter. It’s too far away.”

Even so, the idea of having a truly grab-and-go shopping experience rolling out nationwide is exciting all the same.

It’s time to get cooking but wait..you need a few (dozen) ingredients to make your masterpiece. And you’ve got to bring the kids. How to keep them busy at the grocery store when trips are frequent and carts loaded? We’re hoping these tips and tricks will work like a charm. Scroll down before your next shopping trip!

Jomjakkapat Parrueng/Unsplash

1. Speed through your list with a supermarket race.

Take your list and divide it up among the family members. If it’s just you and the kid(s)—and you think it’s safe— give them ten items on the list to find on their own and time them. If you’ve got enough to form teams, do it! Each team has the same amount or near amount of items and races to get them all and get to the check out line first. Parse the list on purpose so items are near each other and you just saved yourself at least 20 minutes, mama. Score! Even if your child is really young, give them an item or two to grab in the same aisle you are in.

2. Play find and seek as you shop.

Before you head to the store, create a checklist of things kids can easily spot in the grocery store—and a few tricky items—and hand it to the kids once you arrive. Include produce, people, and even scenarios. You can also adapt this DIY farmer’s market bingo set to your grocery store or this checklist of pantry essentials you’re likely to spot in the store.

3. Let the kids hatch a meal plan and then shop the ingredients.

Let them pick a recipe and then draw or write up a list of the ingredients they will need. They can shop and later help prep, so double bonus!

4. Tell them to wear a costume.

Nobody says you need to wear sensible clothes to the grocery store! Bust out a cape, a crown, a ballgown or last year’s Halloween ensemble. Give them “control” over the situation want. n by allowing them to dress in whatever wild outfit they want.

5. Create a pretend play scenario!

Prep for your mission at home (see above, re: costume) and lay out the plot on the way to the store. You are spies seeking the missing can of beans that no one knows was gone. Or you are master chefs preparing a meal for the Queen. Or maybe you just landed on Earth from another planet and are amazed at this magical place full of foodstuffs.

6. Allow them to be part of the decision making by letting them pick out special items.

In addition to letting the kids cross goods off the list, allow them to pick out a few special things. They can be for school lunches, or for someone they love—i.e. Grandpa’s fave cookies, a treat for their best friend, a new dishtowel just for the kids to use. It doesn’t need to be sweet (but hey, we’re not above bribery) or expensive, and it could be something you need anyway. “We’re going to get this jam for your cousins when they visit!” might just be the well-timed, enthusiastic sway you need to avoid a meltdown.

7. Do a dry run.

No, we are not suggesting you go Thanksgiving shopping and not buy anything. Try a dry run at the store here and there, when you are just grabbing one item or you don’t really need something that badly. When you are there, point out exciting things at the store like the beautiful produce or the yummy samples. Then, the next time you need to go you can invoke the power of memory, “We’re going to the store with the free cookie! Yay!”
