When eight-year-old Bellen Woodard overheard her classmates refer to a peach crayon as the “skin-colored crayon,” something didn’t feel right. The comment made her feel “disincluded/unimportant” and she came up with an idea.

Her solution was this: “The next time I’m asked, I’ll just ask my classmates which color would they like because it could be any number of beautiful colors.” Now, Woodard is the nine-year-old founder and president of Bellen’s More Than Peach Project.

As a result of Woodard’s response in the classroom, her teacher and classmates began using the same language. Her impact not only reached her own immediate peers, but eventually her school and community.

More than Peach is a national movement with Woodard at the helm. The intelligent student and model serves not only as the spokesperson but an agent of change. She has received multiple proclamations from government officials and has been featured on MSNBC, The Today Show with Hoda and Jenna, local news outlets, The Washington Post and more.

Woodard’s project and art supply kits, known as Palette Packets, have recently been received for permanent collection at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and are now available for purchase! Each packet includes a custom sketchpad, an eight-count box of Crayola multicultural crayons, a standard 24-count box of crayons and the More than Peach letter and story for $8.99 (includes free shipping). Parents and organizations can also purchase the sketchbook separately for $5.99.

Proceeds from Palette Packets support her philanthropy efforts in her goal of sharing them with peers across the country and hopes to donate to over 80,000 students. You can learn more and support the project by going to www.morethanpeach.com and following Woodard on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

My daughter left her homework sitting on the counter this morning. Which is not where I told her to put it—in her folder. When she realized she left it at home, she said “I thought you were going to put it away for me. Can you drop it off later?” I hesitated because I always want my girl to have what she needs, but then I realized this was the perfect opportunity to let her fail, to make a mistake, and in turn, learn how to be more responsible. It’s hard for parents to do this. My husband even said after I told him, “Can’t you just take it to her this one time?” I wanted to, but this one time will turn into one more time, and then it’ll be every time.

It’s an easy pattern to adapt. After all, your kids are your babies; your gut instinct is to shield them from the big bad world. It’s that mentality, though, that has gotten us to where we are in time, as lawnmower, snowplow or curling parents, or whatever term we’re using for when we clear the path for our kids, so they have no troubles to face, and no challenges to overcome. Unfortunately, studies have shown these tactics don’t necessarily raise capable, responsible humans.

Yes, she was mad at me, and yes, I felt bad for her, and even though I know we will always be close and have a strong bond, I also know I am not her friend. I am her mother. I am her general, preparing her for the battle we call life. If I fix it for her now, what will I be fixing in five years? In 10? In 20? These small failures, at this young age, are the most important ones she can have because when it comes time for the big stuff, she’ll know what she needs to do to succeed. It’s called having life skills, and who else is going to teach my kids? From homework to waking up on her own, I have a feeling this year, her tenth year of life, in the fourth grade, is going to be the year where I begin her training.

Will she understand what I’m trying to do? Probably not at this stage in the game. I’m going to be up against a lot of “You’re so mean!” and “I don’t understand why you won’t let me!” and “I need you to do it for me.” I love my daughter, and when she’s frustrated with me, it’s not fun. Parenting isn’t always supposed to be fun, though. Parenting is also about remembering what my ultimate job is, and knowing that when she gets older and is a capable, mature, and hopefully, successful young adult, she’ll look back and appreciate the lessons I taught her, even the small ones like dealing with her first homework packet in the fourth grade.

What would you do to get your littles to eat their veggies? Apparently now the answer is—frost them!

Kraft recently introduced a kid-cenrtic Salad “Frosting” product. But before a steady stream of, “Eww, gross” spills from your lips, check out what this so-called frosting really is.

It’s no secret that kids (and moms!) are all in for an icing-covered sweet treat. And that’s what Kraft is betting on here. But instead of actual frosting, the product is Kraft’s Classic Ranch Dressing hidden in a frosting-esque packet. In other words the “frosting” is one of those parent-picked tricks to get their kiddos to eat their vegetables without realizing they’re noshing on something healthy.

In celebration of the products release, and fibs parents tell their kiddos, Kraft also announced its #LieLikeAParent contest. All you need to do is tweet your best “parenting lie” with the hashtags #LieLikeAParent and #Contest for a chance to win a free package of Kraft’s newest “frosting.”

For a kid with an egg allergy, celebrating a holiday like Easter can be like navigating a minefield of potential outbreak triggers. One company, eggnots, is putting families’ minds at ease with their ceramic eggs that be dyed and decorated just like the real thing (minus the anxiety associated with the real thing). Find out just how fun and easy decorating eggs can be for any kid—food allergy or not—with eggnots.

Good news, parents. You don’t have to read the ingredients label on this product. We can tell you that it contains zero eggs, though to the naked eye, the ceramic eggs may be deceiving! None of the top 8 allergens (dairy, egg, wheat (gluten), soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish) are contained in eggnots. And what’s more, eggnots are not produced in a facility that processes any of these allergens. To families who deal with food allergies, this deserves a happy dance.

Shop from the eggnots.com website. Choose from ceramic eggs that come in anywhere from a six-pack to 12 cartons of 18 eggs each (if you’re decorating for a crowd). Find the size that works best for your family, with add-on accessories like egg hangers, non-toxic dye, dye cups and a chick and nest kit available at an extra cost.

If you opt to buy the non-toxic dye, expect vibrant colors. Bonus: it’s easy-to-use (simply mix ½ cup of water and 1 tsp. of vinegar to the dye packet). Since the eggnots are hollow you will need to weigh them down in the cup—we used a spoon. Leave them there for anywhere from 5 minutes on, take them out and let them dry for 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, decorate with markers, stickers, feathers or any other fun craft supplies.

Other fun facts about eggnots:

While they’re realistic and look like a real egg, they’re also durable enough for toddlers to handle.

They’re non-perishable and eco-friendly—they’ll last forever!

They’re vegan-friendly!

And, no need to put them in the fridge, though they are so realistic you may mistake them for real eggs.

Lucky Charms Is FINALLY Getting This Long Overdue Marshmallow—for Good

Stronajai Miles was doing her daily backpack check last week when she came across quite the gem in her son’s bag. The Atlanta, Georgia mom shared her findings on Facebook and the result? Her son’s school picture went viral.

When Miles pulled out a packet from Lifetouch School Photography, she was expecting to find a pose similar to her own from way back in the day. Instead, the face staring back at her was a cross between a scream and a dinosaur roar––and we can’t stop smiling.

After sharing her dismay that the photos weren’t more “traditional,” she contacted the company and learned they actually favor “free-spirited” poses. That—combined with the more than 40,000 shares on Facebook—has the mom rethinking her take on the portrait.

In a Facebook post, Miles says that “knowing that his silly picture brought joy all over the world, how can I continue to be flustered?” (And yes, she did buy the pictures!)
