These all-inclusive resorts have amazing kids club programs that are included with your stay
Thinking of heading to the Dominican Republic with your family? You definitely should! It’s a quick flight from the East Coast and offers some of the most gorgeous beaches, welcoming people, and delicious food in the Caribbean. Club Med is an easy choice for families as it is truly all-inclusive. You can have them book everything from your flights to your airport transfers and excursions so you don’t even have to think about anything beyond packing your suitcase.
Club Med offers two properties in the Dominican Republic: Club Med Punta Cana and Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda. Which of these all-inclusive properties is best for families? We have the full scoop on both and a tip on how you can even enjoy both on the same vacation!
Club Med Punta Cana
Club Med
Club Med Punta Cana is the brand’s flagship family property and you can see the focus on kids before you even arrive. Once your reservation is booked and paid in full, you can sign your kids up for the Mini Club program that offers a full-day kids club experience. Activities like crafts, tennis, archery, circus school, and so much more are included for ages 4 and up at Club Med. For kids under age 4, on-demand care is available for an additional fee. You can even get care for your kids during dinner hours so they can head off with their friends while you enjoy a quiet meal with your partner.
The property’s Mini Club facilities were quite impressive. There’s a zero-entry splash zone for cooling off when the temps creep up. Rooms for dining and activities along with playground equipment are also available. While we were on the property, we saw tons of kids participating in everything from water games to a pirate scavenger hunt!
Accommodations at Club Med Punta Cana
We stayed in the two-bedroom family room while at Club Med Punta Cana and it was very well-appointed for families of up to five people. There’s a parent room with a king-size bed and bathroom, along with a couch that can be arranged as a bed for a child if needed. A separate bedroom with two twin beds for the kids has plenty of storage area and a door that closes. There’s also a second bathroom in the hallway and a balcony. The family rooms are conveniently located in the middle of the property with easy access to Mini Club and the main restaurant, Hispaniola.
Club Med
If you have a baby coming along with you, the Club Med Baby Welcome Kit can be reserved in advance without additional cost and it comes with a baby bathtub, bottle warmer, changing table, umbrella bed, and stroller (this is also available at Michès).
In addition to the family accommodations, you can upgrade your stay to the Exclusive Collection space where you’ll have even more room to spread out. This part of the resort offers room service for breakfast, as well as a private pool and bar.
Head to the Zen Oasis when the kids are at Mini Club for some time in the adults-only pool. Accommodations are also available in this more secluded area of the property if you are traveling without little ones.
Dining at Club Med Punta Cana
Club Med
Club Med Punta Cana has three restaurants available as part of the all-inclusive package. Hispaniola is your go-to spot for buffet dining which kids really love. Breakfast is our favorite with the omelette station taking top marks, but the dinner buffet with the chocolate fountain is a kid favorite. Hispaniola offers a gorgeous oceanfront view, was recently renovationed, and is open for all three meals.
For a la carte service with ocean views, Indigo is your spot. We especially enjoyed our dinner at Indigo with perfectly grilled meats and delicious sides. The Dominican offerings like the curry plate were also quite tasty. Samana Restaurant was closed for yearly maintenance during our stay but it offers a variety of cuisines including Caribbean, French, Italian, Asian, and more.
Things to Do at Club Med Punta Cana
If you want a full day of activities, Club Med Punta Cana is ready to provide. The Club Med app will lay out all the activities available for the day from organized beach volleyball games to power walking. There are different nightly performances and the Michael Jackson show was particularly fun.
Before you arrive, check out the themes for the nights you’ll be there. This ranges from white night to black/gold or floral. We were surprised how much the guests got into this while we were there! It’s not mandatory of course but most people would dress up in that night’s theme before they headed to dinner. It brings a festive vibe to the dining and nightly activities.
During the day, you can head to the beach for some time on the lounge chairs or watersports like snorkeling and sailing. Gear is available to check out but if your kids have their own goggles or floaties they like, you might want to bring them with you. We did find that the lobby shops were quite well stocked with anything we might have forgotten to bring with us.
Adults should definitely plan to spend some time at the onsite spa while you are there. Services like massages and facials are available for an additional cost but we think it’s definitely worth it for access to the gorgeous indoor/outdoor spa space. You can even book a couple’s massage with a view of the ocean.
Getting to Club Med Punta Cana
If you are looking for convenience, this is the spot for you. Fly into Punta Cana International Airport and then grab your shuttle to the resort. The property is located just a 20-minute drive from the airport so you don’t have a long van ride after your flight. Couldn’t be easier!
Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda is an oasis in the Dominican jungle and you’re going to want to check it out. A 1.5-hour shuttle ride will get you from the airport to this Exclusive Collection property and you’ll be impressed by your gorgeous surroundings from the minute you walk through the open-air lobby and are treated to a refreshing drink.
At Michès, you’ll find the service to be elevated from access to a pre-arrival concierge to the superior room amenities. All rooms have access to breakfast room services which is very convenient when traveling with kids.
Club Med Michès is focused on sustainability and they even have a water bottling facility on-site, eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles. You will find glass bottles available in your room and they replace them as you use them throughout your stay. You can also find bottle-filling stations around the property.
Accommodations at Club Med Michès
Club Med
Four villages make up the accommodations and you’ll find a different vibe in each. Explorer Cove is where we stayed and it had good access to the main area of the resort with pool, as well as the Mini Club and beach. Families will enjoy the Deluxe Family Room which has an adult room with a bathroom, a separate room with two twin beds for the kids, plus a second bathroom. Limited snacks and beverages are available in the in-room fridge and you’ll have a Nespresso machine as well.
Other areas of the property include Caribbean Paradise (a colorful area for families and couples), Zen Oasis (a relaxing area for everyone), and Archipelago (an adult-exclusive area with suites). No matter where you stay, adults have access to the Zen Pool (pictured above). Believe us when we say that you won’t want to leave this area once you’ve seen it! This gorgeous green pool has lots of spots for sunbathing or reading in the shade, as well as a swim-up bar where you can get fresh-made smoothies or cocktails as you like. Claim one of the hammocks and you’ll be in heaven.
Mini Club at Club Med Michès
Club Med
Just like at the Punta Cana property, kids ages 4 and up have access to the Mini Club program at Michès with similar offerings like circus school, water play, crafts, theater, and more. Infants from 4 months and up can have booked care for an additional price. The splash pad in the Mini Club area is available to families even if you aren’t using Mini Club that day. The dump bucket was a huge hit as you can imagine!
Dining at Club Med Michès
Club Med
The gourmet food offerings at Michès really shine and you can see that from the moment you wake up. Head over to the coffee shop where you can find hot and cold coffee drinks, frozen yogurt, pastries, and small sandwiches.
The buffet at Cayuco had pretty much everything you could want from fresh fruit to Asian bowls to fresh-made pancakes. Adults dining without their kids can enjoy their meals in the adults-only area if they wish. Don’t miss Club Med’s signature white chocolate bread while you are there! Be sure you check the schedule for nights when they offer the Secret Chocolate Room experience. The kids will go wild when they learn that they can have as much chocolate as they can fit on their plates.
Coco Plum focuses on local specialties with many different seafood options as well as non-meat options. Try the fish tacos while you enjoy the waves crashing nearby.
Coal & Copper is the resort’s steakhouse that welcomes guests for an additional fee. We had an amazing meal here and the staff was very attentive. The portions are massive so make sure you are hungry when you arrive!
Things to Do at Club Med Michès
Take advantage of all the activities offered at Club Med Michès as there really is something for everyone. The treetop palapa is a lovely venue for morning yoga before you head to the nearby Zen Pool. Tennis lessons, fitness classes, watersports, circus lessons, and so much more are on the agenda. The tough part—balancing the relaxing with all the activities.
Club Med Michès has an excellent spa that we got to visit during our stay. Enjoy your time before or after your treatment trying out the three plunge pools that go from refreshingly cold to hot. Any way you like to relax is available here.
Nighttime brings all sorts of performances like traditional Dominican dancers and circus acts. Be sure to check the Club Med app for the schedule for the day so you know what to expect.
Things to Know about Visiting Club Med in the Dominican Republic
You can arrange a day trip to Club Med Punta Cana from Michès if you want to check out the other property. Some people even split their visit between the two properties if they want a little variety.
The mosquitos come out at dusk in Michès. The resort provides bug spray and sprays the property as well but keep that in mind if you are sensitive.
Mini Club can book up so if you are sure you want to use it during your stay, book it as soon as you arrive at the resort or in advance if possible.
Many families bring strollers or foldable wagons with them. Floaties for the swimming pool are also allowed (and sold at the gift shop at both locations).
Club Med does a great job welcoming families, setting space aside for parents to relax without their kids, and bringing visitors together for shows and parties. It really is quite the fun all-inclusive family vacation!

There's a Santa Claus Museum that tells the story of the town, and there's Santa’s Candy Castle for sweet treats and a chance to log on to the North Pole Network and chat with an elf. Check the schedule for details and don’t miss the Santa Claus Christmas Store, filled with holiday collectibles and a thrill-seeking ride at the year-round Holiday World Theme Park.
There's no shortage of seasonal entertainment at Silver Dollar City. The 1880s-style theme park offers a blend of old-time celebrations with dizzying light displays that will shine in your memory for decades. Christmas in Newport | Newport, RI
This seaside town goes all out for the season, stringing lights along the harbor and wharves, and trimming historic Victorian houses with wreaths and window candles. The real focus of this winter destination, though, is goodwill toward others. What started back in 1971 has turned into a whole-town extravaganza featuring holiday-themed events and activities every day of December. Each event fits into one of two criteria—being free to the public or benefiting a charity. The town raises thousands of dollars each year, and visitors get to enjoy everything from the tree lighting to walking tours, museum experiences, teas, and even musical programs, any day of the week. Kid-friendly highlights include the Reindeer Games and meeting Santa.
During the holidays, the Holy City transforms into a real-life Charles Dickens scene with garlands of greenery embellishing historic mansions, magnolia wreaths hung on wrought-iron gates, and twinkling lights wrapping around trunks of Palmetto trees. Enjoy magical events like James Island’s Annual Holiday Festival of Lights (Nov. 10 – Dec. 31) featuring over two million dazzling lights, the 2023 Drayton Hall Oyster Roast (Dec. 3), a longtime favorite of local families and visitors alike, and Charleston Jazz Orchestra’s Holiday Swing (Dec. 2), showcasing winter classics and holiday favorite hits.
The Holy City’s most awarded hotel, French Quarter Inn, invites travelers to experience the charm of the holidays in Charleston with the ultimate festive accommodations in its Sleigh Bell Suite. Available throughout the month of December, this decked out suite with garland and mistletoe will feature an in-room eggnog bar, a special ornament delivered at turndown, classic holiday movie screenings, and so much more.
North Pole Experience | Flagstaff, AZ
North Pole Experience
Take your little elf on a journey to the North Pole with the North Pole Experience in Flagstaff. Families board a trolly to travel through a magic portal into Santa's woodland workshop among towering pine trees. There's the mailroom, the sleigh hangar, a mission control center, radar systems, access to the factory floor, a trip to Elf University, a visit with Mrs. Claus, plus cookies and snowman soup in the bakery. Each child then gets to meet Santa himself and will score a digital photo and a teddy bear to take home.
The host hotel is Little America, but The North Pole Experience works with many area hotels to accommodate families. Come for the holiday cheer, but stay for the extra winter amenities Flagstaff has to offer, like skiing, and exploring the Grand Canyon.
Imagine historic houses paired with over a million twinkling lights as a backdrop to this winter destination that’s drawn locals and out-of-state visitors for over 70 years. If you visit, expect lots of holiday cheer, dazzling light displays, and run-ins with various Christmas-themed characters that’ll keep the kids busy and wide-eyed as you wander.
Favorite stops to grab a cup of cocoa or warm up after you’ve made the lake loop include Santa’s Post Office, the old fire station, and the old-fashioned toy Shoppe. Remember to snag a pic with Santa and Mrs. Claus while you’re there too. Bundle up to experience this inventive village on the lake!
Since 1927, this town has been celebrating Christmas in a major way. Over 300,000 lights and 100+ set pieces are on display every night at dusk. Every Saturday there is live music, kids' activities, fireworks, and more. Book a time for cookies with Santa. Make sure you're there on Dec. 2 for the 96th Annual Christmas Festival.
Located just outside the winter wonderland city Bend, Oregon, Brasada Ranch will be trimming the trees and putting their best Christmas foot forward to elevate their already amazing family game. In addition to their everyday perks like horseback riding, indoor sports, and babysitting services, December’s resort activities will include family favorites like decorating ornaments, stockings, and gingerbread houses; story time with one of Santa’s favorite elves; and heading out on a cozy carriage ride (just to name a few). It’s easy to handpick a winter weekend to make your family's wishes come true. Book soon to get the weekend you want at this Pacific Northwest favorite.
No holiday is complete without visiting Christmas Town, U.S.A. in December. The town of McAdenville, North Carolina goes all out during the holidays, starting with a spectacular tree lighting on Dec. 1. From there, it’s fully-lit houses (over 160 at last count) and the historic McAden Mills Bells Tower playing holiday classics for all to hear, as visitors wander through the neighborhoods to enjoy display after display. In the center of town, you’ll find over 250 evergreens wearing more than half a million lights to light the lovely walking path that goes around the lake.
Don't miss special events like the Yule Log Ceremony (Dec. 14) and the parade that follows. Psst … we hear Santa will be making a special appearance at the end of the route to greet his biggest (and smallest) fans.
People travel from all over the country to celebrate the holidays in Colonial Williamsburg. The living history museum is known for going all out in the winter in order to create memorable holiday moments from the past—in the present. There are costumes, merrymaking, and messages of hope as well as fireworks and historic events. Tour the city with a knowledgeable guide and experience the Christmastide season, listen to traditional tribal stories during Midwinter Story Time, or lace up your skates and take your little ones for a twirl at Liberty’s Ice Pavilion. The options are endless.
Tucked away in the Ozark Mountains is a luxe resort that pulls out all the stops during the holiday season. The cozy log cabins come with their very own Christmas tree and elf visits. Kid-friendly activities abound, there's the Sleigh Bell Scurry (a holiday-themed scavenger hunt), an ice skating rink, sing-a-longs, storytelling and cooking with Mrs. Claus, the Great Gingerbread Build-Off contest, and the 12 Days of Christmas: daily activities that countdown until the big day. Most impressive is the larger-than-life Gingerbread Village, with tiny houses, trees, and other details that mimic resort sites.
Merry Weihnachten, y’all! Mix an old-world German Christmas with warm Texas hospitality, and you get Christmastime in Fredericksburg. The light-filled Marktplatz has a hand-carved, festive, wooden centerpiece and there are events like the annual Tannenbaum Ball, along with vintage-style shops filled with one-of-a-kind treasures. The kids will love the outdoor ice rink, the Light and Nicht Christmas Parade, seasonal theater, and live music.
For the past 30+ years, this tiny hamlet by the sea has welcomed thousands of visitors on the second weekend in December for its Christmas by the Sea celebration. The event starts with the city tree lighting, complete with cookies and carolers, on Friday. Over the next couple of days, the celebration is filled with all sorts of fun: crafts for kids, a Christmas parade, hayrides, mulled cider and wine tasting, fireworks, beach bonfires, and for those who dare—a polar bear plunge!
Horse-drawn carriages? Check. Carolers caroling? Check. Plenty of candy canes and other holiday goodies? Check! No one does a Victorian Christmas Celebration like Nevada City, a small California town nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. During December, the downtown streets are blocked to through traffic and open to bustling holiday activities: jugglers, carolers, food vendors, and more. There’s a photo op with Santa at the end of Broad Street, the Nevada City Craft Fair for holiday shopping, and even chestnuts roasting over an open fire.
You don’t have to leave the country to pay a visit to the North Pole, in fact, you don’t even have to leave Southern California. Just outside of Lake Arrowhead you’ll find a winter wonderland where both Santa and fun in the snow await. If your idea of a snow day is not so much skiing and sledding, as it is simply playing, then this is the place for you. Besides the snow itself, your kids will be filled with winter wonder over the twinkling beauty of the village and, of course, the big man himself, Santa. If you need a break from stomping around in the snow, there is also ice skating, a train ride, and plenty of yuletide-themed festivities.

Make sure to capture all the fall fun—and share them with your family and friends near and far—with the Tinybeans app. The secure platform puts parents in total control of who sees and interacts with photos and videos of their kids.
From scavenger hunts to Follow the Leader, these fun activities take your toddler walks to the next level
One of the best things about parenting a toddler is that they can find wonder in the simplest of things. Take a neighborhood walk, for example. Kids are thrilled by the possibilities—what will they find? Who will they see? Where will they go? The next time you need an easy toddler activity that takes little-to-no planning, spice up your walk with one of these ideas.
1. Treasure walk
No matter where you walk with your little one, you can count on them to pick up the oddest treasures. In fact, we’re willing to bet your tot comes home from each family outing with at least three of the following stuffed into a pocket: feather, coin, dropped hair tie, wrapper, rock, flower.
Our suggestion? Lean in. Rather than quickly reaching for the hand sanitizer in your back pocket as you remind them to “leave it, please,” give them a small bag or box to keep their special finds safe on your walk. Call it a treasure walk and you’ve got a wonderful new way to explore.
2. License plate game
Car trips call for the license plate game. Isn’t it only fair that neighborhood walks should have something similar? Keep your wee one motivated to move when you play the alphabet game (numbers work, too!). See if your kiddo can find all the letters—from A to Z—on street signs, on cars, and even on houses.
3. Jump in puddles
While it’s usually easy to get kids outside on a sunny day, it’s harder when the rain is falling. Count on a simple walk around the block to lift everyone’s spirits on a gray day. And you can encourage your kids to get a little wet with a promise of puddle-jumping good times. All it takes is rain boots and a sense of adventure to find just the right ones for splashing. Fair warning: You may have to add extra blocks to your typical route for this one. Puddles never get old! (We’ve also got you covered with plenty of other rainy day activities for toddlers.)
4. Scavenger hunt
Neighborhood scavenger hunts were all the rage in the early months of the pandemic for a reason. Not only are they easy to plan, but with so many ideas out there, you can do a different one every day and never seem to run out of options. Find all the colors of the rainbow, different textures, nature sounds, vehicles, trees… let your imagination run wild. They’ll love the hunt; you’ll love the simplicity.
5. Nature art
Turn your walk into an art project precursor when you go out in search of leaves, flowers, pine cones, and other natural elements. You can’t go wrong, because no matter what your kiddo finds, it can be used to make magical sun paper prints that develop in the sunlight. You’ll need special paper for this one, and a bit of patience as your kiddo both seeks out nature’s treasures and then puts them together. Too much work? Stick with the nature theme and stuff paper and a few crayons into your diaper bag to make bark rubbings. You’ll come home with fridge-ready art.
6. Clean up the streets
Turn your walk into a beautiful day in the neighborhood when you and the kids pick up trash. All you need is a bag, gloves, and some hand sanitizer, and you’re ready to leave the world a little better than you found it.
7. Follow the Leader
Challenge your tot to a game of Follow the Leader. Can your mini-me walk like a duck? Walk backward? Do a silly dance? Remember to take turns leading—is there anything toddlers love more than being in charge? And have fun coming up with actions to follow. It’s a great one to pull out when your kiddo needs a little extra motivation to make it home because it’s simply irresistible.
8. Plant seed bombs
Ideas that take a little prep ahead of time and give you an at-home activity first are always a hit. If you’ve got some extra flower seeds from your spring planting, turn them into seed bombs that you can “plant” at a local public park or walkway. This one’s a twofer because you can take your tot out to find the flowers on a walk later in the year.
9. I Spy
This one’s a toddler favorite for a reason. It blends just the right amount of mystery with all the colors of the rainbow. If your kiddo needs a distraction during the walk, trot out this favorite and make it happen. I Spy something blue… green …brown; you know how to play. Set your sights on the fun.
10. Bird watching (and listening!)
While binoculars might be a bit much for toddlers, listening for different birds is right up their alley. See if you can spot any of the winged pals you hear as you make your way down the street. Follow it up with a book that identifies local species, and your kiddo will want to take a walk every day to figure out which feathered friends are around.

From pumpkin tic-tac-toe to arts and crafts to outdoor Thanksgiving games for kids, we’ve got something for everyone.

Turkey Waddle
Your kids can giggle through this funny race that requires a balloon in between each player's legs. Players must make their way from point A to point B without touching the balloon or letting it fall. Get the details from Party Games Ideas and waddle away!
Practice fine motor skills and have tons of fun with this Thanksgiving game from School Time Snippets! Grab some pom-poms, a (clean) turkey baster, and a few kids needing to focus on something besides when dinner will be ready.
The Feather Game
Roll the dice with this crafty turkey “feather” game. We love this make-ahead game that uses colored clothespins paired with a free printable designed by Amy at The Idea Room because it's all the rage, no matter what age. Set up the game table, then let ‘em roll!

A fun way to set up a mini version of cornhole inside the house. Save a big box from a recent delivery and you’ve got what you need for this Thanksgiving game.
Creative Thanksgiving Crafts That Put a Feather in Their Cap
Although your little turkeys may not jump at the chance to set the table, they’ll jump at the chance to make these beautiful beaded napkin rings. Buggy and Buddy has everything you need to know to set up and make this easy—not to mention super helpful—turkey day craft.
Design a Table Covering
Roll out some butcher paper so that it covers the entire table, then let your aspiring artists have at it with any and everything they can find in the craft bin. Then have the kids make the rounds asking guests what they’re thankful for, and record the answers on the covering. This a wonderful reminder of the season!
Contact paper suncatchers are easy to make (aka minimal supervision), plus they add to your Thanksgiving décor. To get started, leave out small pieces of tissue paper in fall colors. Next, have your kidlet place the paper pieces onto to sticky side of clear contact paper. When she’s done, seal it shut with another piece of contact paper. Then, use cookie cutters or other templates to trace and cut fall shapes like leaves, pumpkins, turkeys, or apples to hang in your dining room window.
Make Potato Stamps
Set up a stamp station where your mini-me can use spare dinner fixings to create fantastic works of art. Carve simple shapes into extra potatoes during pre-dinner prep. Then set up a station with plenty of paper and paints to keep your aspiring artist busy while you transform the rest of your potato stash into a delish holiday side.
Craft turkey puppets with your stash of brown paper lunch sacks. Allison at No Time For Flash Cards can give you the low down on this easy-to-set-up craft option that gives you precious time in the kitchen.
Give your sweet tot something to do with a sensory bin full of popcorn kernels. Keep with the fall theme by adding plastic pumpkins and fabric leaves, or go full farm by including Old Mac Donald and his barnyard faves among the kernels. Finish it off with measuring cups and funnels to keep those little hands busy, so you can mix and mingle with your guests.
Send Them on a Feather Hunt
Hide colorful craft feathers around the house ahead of time. Then when your sidekick comes looking for something to do, let her know the game is already afoot. Challenge her to Sherlock her way to a win by tracking them all down.
Spice up your standard play dough routine with a DIY batch that’s scented like pumpkin. Carla at Small+Friendly has the deets you need to make it the day before. Then set up a play cook station for your little chef using your fave play dough tools. She “cooks” while you cook—it's a win-win!
Did you know all it takes is a little shake, shake, shake to make DIY butter? Simply pour ¼ cup of whipping cream into a mason jar or other tightly sealed container. Then shake it up for around 20 minutes until the butterfat separates from the liquid. We love the idea of passing the jar between tiny guests to spread the wealth. Don’t forget to drain it before serving it alongside your fresh bread at dinnertime!
Give Thanks
Allison Sutcliffe
String together thanks with a free printable garland designed by Somewhat Simple. Print out plenty of stylish flags ahead of time. Then have your crew write out their grateful phrases before cutting out each flag and hanging them up in time for the dinner bell.
